So on to  our new challenge and this week our theme is

" Frame it "

although our challenges are now fortnightly, this is a 1 week challenge and no its not to confuse you, its because we've got something very exciting coming up so we needed to tweak the challenges a little bit so keep popping back to see what we've got up our sleeves!

Claire  I've used an mdf blank which had gone totally wrong and smothered it in Maimeri Light Modelling Paste, adding texture with a palette knife for my frame. Once it was dry I added colour with PanPastels (Raw Umber, Neutral Grey and white) and sealed with Maimeri Matte Gel. The image has also been coloured wih PanPastels, the fence was added using a White Graph'It Shake pen, full details are on my blog

Tracy - Hello sweet friends, I had so much fun creating and framing my art this week using Pan Pastels, Mediums and a Stencil Mask. First I created a little mixed media art . . .

. . . before turning my attention to the wooden frame . . .

. . . applying touches of Metallic Light Gold, Pathalo Blue Shade and Titanium White Pan Pastels to blend it all together. More Pictures on my blog here. xx

Terry Hey there guys, I had loads of fun with the Springfeel colours, used Gesso and Light Modelling Paste and a Stencil Mask on the background , PanPastels offcourse and butterflies from the wendy and her sentiment cause butterflies are fragile....More detaills on my blog......

Lou: I have made a traditional frame using dies to house my sentiment (new designs created by Nikky for PCB). I have created my background using a mixture of distress inks, pan pastels and stamped images .... however all my images have been coloured/painted using pan pastels!

The added embellishments are from Doobadoo paper cuts - buttons, feathers, swirls and butterflies. I have highlighted my flowers and leaves using a GraphIt white shaker pen. Full details of my project can be found on my blog and I would love it if you popped over to say "hi".

************************************************************************************************

WEEK 7 - 16 feb...Make an embellishment using a PAB stencil

Happy Sunday everyone!

It's a really busy weekend here at Pan Pastels UK. Today sees the opening of the UK's only Art & Craft trade show at the NEC and Premium Craft Brands will be exhibiting all the yummy products at the fair to the retailers. We have some really great new products coming your way which are being unveiled at the show and we can't wait until we show you in the coming days and weeks! Nikky is at the fair with Premium Crafts and will be demonstrating on the stand so if you are around make sure you head on over - we've seen the samples the DT have made and they are amazing!

Here's just a couple of sneak peeks of our fave projects you might see....

What an exciting time! Before we check out our DT's projects for the new challenge, its time to announce the winners from Challenge 5, so without any further ado our lucky winner (as chosen by Random.org) is .........................

Well done Yvonne, congratulations hun please email us to claim your fabby Premium Art Brands goodies!!

Wowser we had so many gorgeous entries you talented crafters gave us a bit of a headache trying to choose our top 3 but it had to be done and congratulations go to

So let's get onto this week's challenge!

Anything goes/make an embellishment with a stencil

Claire C I've used the Birds and Leaves stencil to make embellies for this little mdf heart. Its an A4 stencil but I love the little birdies and it seems a shame only to use it on large projects so I had a play and spread some Maimeri Light Modelling Paste through the stencil directly on to my nonstick craft sheet. I left it to dry and then simply peeled the birds and leaves off and coloured them with PanPastels. I used Maimeri Matte Gel Medium to pop the embellies on my project

Nikky...I cheated a little bit. I made a tag which IS my embellishment for a much bigger project I'm working on, so that counts, right? Well I think so!
This has no less than 4 brand new products on it which we are launching this weekend so I'm not sure if I can tell you what they are yet! I will reveal details on my blog later in the week! I've used a stencil, Maimeri Glassy Gel, a stamp, Pan Pastels in Phthalo Green and Silver Metallic together with some Iron Oxide Red to add shade.

Terry I have altered a heartshaped box and used just like Nikky 4 brand new products on it so I am not gonna tell ya either.....what I worked with are Gesso, Light Modelling Paste , Maimeri Iridescent Paste and lots and lots of Metallic Gold PanPastels and I love them. I made an embellishment out of a stencil and made it into a flower, a double flower with a huge button on top which was worked on with Acrylic Metallic Paints and lace

Tracy - Hi everyone, I am so excited to be sharing a little mixed media on wood with you today.

Do you like my bright coloured lollipop flowers?

I sure hope so! The heart and two centres on each one has been created using PCB Hearts In A Circle Mask Stencil. Be sure to hop on by my blog to see more here.

Lou: I have made a flower using a labels die (do not have any flower dies). Using a stencil (12"x12" dots with edges) and gesso I created a pattern on top of some gaudy, glittered yellow mulberry paper using just the edges of the stencil. To mute the colour a little further, I used Hansa Yellow Tint pan pastel. I have used this too on the edges of my papers and other diecuts.

the team were asked to mix their Pan Pastels with some kind of medium or fluid, which could be anything they wished from water to crackle glaze to Maimeri...the choice is theirs, and YOURS. So let's get on with the challenge and the stunning inspiration from the team...

Zoe - I have mixed Bright Yellow Green Ex Dark PanPastels with Glassy Medium and put it through a mask.  Please pop along to my blog to find out more....

Claire I've used Permanent Red and Black PanPastels to create the music script for the Christmas Tree. The background was made by mixing silver PanPastel with water in a mini mister and spritzing the black card - once it was dry I stamped snowflakes with versamark ink and then applied Rich Gold PanPastel over the top....
Terry ...I altered a photo frame and had lots of fun with making my own background for the frame. I worked with Gesso, the Metallic Acrylic Mediums, crackle, Metallic PanPastels and Utee on the flowers together with embossing powder and inks. So lots of mixing with fluids me thinks xxxx
Suzi I decided to create a mini canvas, using Maimeri Iridescent Paste, Magenta Pan Pastels and my Graph'It Markers. I used the Iridescent Paste to create my embellishments as well as to colour my canvas, such a wonderful versatile product.

So there is our inspiration from the fabulously talented Pan Pastel UK team this week!...

I've altered a box that used to once house nail varnishes. I have used Gesso to prime the box, Maimeri modelling pastewith my newest favourite mask from PAB, A4 flower (to create the raised pattern) and finally sealed everything with Glassy Gel. Everything has been coloured with pan pastels and metallic pan pastels. I have ecen coloured the metal letters with metallic pan pastels! Full details are on my blog.

Zoe
I've altered some playing cards using Pan Pastels, various Maimeri mediums and Metallic Pan Pastels. Check out my blog for more info. http://zoeblingcards.blogspot.co.uk/.

Claire C
I've used lots of metallic PanPastels on this altered frame and little picture. I used gesso to prime the frame and gave it a coat of Bronze Maimeri Acrylic pant. I and then coloured the crackle medium with Rich Gold PanPasel. I stamped the image with versamark and applied Copper and Bronze PanPastel over the top, adding some glitter for a frosty sparkle. The little bird was also coloured with Maimeri Acrylic in Bronze, love love love this colour!!

Tracy
Altered wooden Doorstop

I had so much fun altering this little wooden doorstop with a mixture of Pan Pastels, Metallic Pan Pastels, Maimeri Gels and Mediums, scraps of paper and words from book pages. You can see more over on my blog here.

Terry I had a blast with the fabulous Metallic PanPastels, love the colours and the shine they give. I altered a photoframe and used the Wendy Vecchi technique of stamping onto Modelling Paste and I can tell ya that works just wonderfulll. The borders of the frame are worked on with Gesso, Modelling Paste and the Roses/Butterfly stencil and a honeycomb stencil. The butterflies are covered with Iridescent Paste and on top Metallic PanPastels. To cover it all I painted with the Metallic Acrylic Paints.

Suzi I had lots of fun transforming an old ribbon reel into a pretty pin pot, using White Gesso, Glassy Gel Medium and Light Modelling Paste to create my embellishments.

Wood Art with Pan Pastels Tutorial. . .

Hi everyone, Tracy here today and I am soooo excited to be sharing a little of my wood art with you all!
It`s so simple to create . . . honest . . . all you will need is a lump of wood, the piece I used was laying around at my allotment . . . I didn`t sand it as I love the roughness of texture, but I did give it a quick coat of Acrylic White Paint.
In the picture above I`ve said "1 die cut star " but I ended up using 3 to give it more dimension.
I`ve used the
Wplus9 - Clear cut Stackers -Stars
but you could just doodle a star and cut it out.
 The pretty papers are from
Authentique Joyous 6x6 paper pad collection
beautiful, warm rich colors.
But you can use whatever scraps of paper you have!
I added some more of the papers down the sides and along the top to box it all in.
After getting messy with a mixture of Pan Pastels from Mixed Media sets 1 &
along with a few of the new Metallic Pan Pastels
it was time to . . . doodle doodle doo all over with a fine black liner pen
followed by some . . .
Pink Paislee - She Art{Christy Tomlinson}Border & Doily Rub ons
Loooove them, just saying!
Finishing with a few Word stickers and some Glossy Gel over the surface.
What once was a lump of wood is now a gift for someone`s Christmas . . . 1 down and more to go,lol!

I hope you enjoyed my makeover and if you have a go, we would love to see what you create.
Happy Crafting
xoxo

So let's get to the challenge!....

ANYTHING GOES

This week we want to show you some of the amazingly great effects you can get when you mix Pan Pastels together with other Mediums...many people don't really understand what mediums really are and how they can be used in your crafting projects so hopefully we can show you some great ideas this week.

Maimeri have a range of mediums which are just brilliant. There are many mediums on the market but not all are equal and when it comes to quality you need to buy the best you can afford because the quality really does make a difference. Generally, the cheaper the product, the more watered down it will be. A medium is a 'liquid'/paste material which is generally multi-purpose. Here are the Maimeri mediums and what you can use them for....

1. Maimeri GESSO...Gesso is an art medium which basically acts as a sealer and an undercoat. Traditionally, artists have always used it to seal their canvas so that the paint doesn't soak through the fabric too much. Think of it in the same terms that you would seal or undercoat your walls and woodwork at home before you decorate. Use Gesso as a base coat on canvas, mdf, chipboard, paper, card, wood - anything which is absorbent. It's a low cost product which will help you to save on using too much paint or ink which costs more money. It dries to a matt finish and can be mixed with Pan Pastels, acrylics and mica powders to colourise it. Goes on white and dries white.
2. Maimeri LIGHT MODELLING PASTE...this is fantastic! This paste is like a liquid clay - you can use it in lots of different ways to make texture and embellishments. Try adding it to silicon moulds and allowing it to dry overnight - you can make your own embellishments! It is really lightweight compared to clays and other mediums.
3. Maimeri GLOSS Gel....this is similar to Gesso but leaves a glossy surface. Goes on white but dries clear.
4. Maimeri Iridescent Paste...Again, this has the same properties as Maimeri Gesso but will give you a pearl, iridescent finish - gorgeous! Goes on white and stays Pearlised white.
5. Maimeri Glassy Gel....we all LOVE this! Once dry this gel is completely transparent and gives a high gloss finish - you can apply it in a thick layer to make it raised and give an embossed look...again mix it with pigmented colour to change the colour of it - it's great for making specific areas on a project really 'pop'. You can really get dimensional effect with this, great for applying little glossy drops, water effects etc. Goes on opaque and dries clear.
6. Maimeri Matt Gel...The same as the Gloss Gel, but matt. No brainer! Dries clear.
7. Retarder Gel...this extends the drying time of Acrylic paints and increases the brilliance of colour - so if you work in a warm area and your paints dry quickly you need a retarder gel!

We hope this helps you understand the Maimeri range and why we all love them so much on the Design Team - they help us achieve some fantastic effects!

So let's get on and see what the team have made this week! Don't forget, our theme is Anything Goes and you have until Tues 12th November to enter! We pick a random winner so everyone has an equal chance of winning goodies but also pick our favourite 3 entries too. Go create!...

Zoe: I've mixed Pan Pastels with Matt gel medium, check out my blog to see more.
Claire I've mixed Maimeri Glassy gel with glitter, let it dry and die cut it to create sparkly snowflakes to embellish my card. The gelli plate background was made with one of the gorgeous new masks from Premium Art Brands using PanPastels and Maimeri Iridescent medium. I've made a frost edge around the image and the background by mixing glitter, shaved ice and mica flakes with some more glassy gel. The image is coloured with Graph'It Markers.
Terry I worked on the background with Metallic PanPastels and Gesso with Iridescent Paste. On top another layer with Metallic Pans.and to finish the background I played with Crackle....the flowers were made with Versamark Embossing ink and white embossingpowder. The background I made with the Metallic Pans and water, I love the effect it gives. The butterflies were worked on with Metallic Pans and Iridescent Paste.
Tracy - Hi everyone, today I have an idea for my Christmas cards to share with you all using Maimeri Iridescent and Light Modelling Pastes to which I added Pan Pastels and Metallic Pan Pastels. I love the textures and age it has added along with a beautiful pearlescent sheen. This idea has been created in my old book that I journal in with a list of what I have used on the opposite page, want to see more? Then please stop on by my blog here.
So there is our inspiration from the fabulously talented Pan Pastel UK team this week!...

Suzi
I created two different background papers for this card, one uses an embossing folder and black Pan Pastel, the other a mask, black Pan Pastel and some Gloss Gel Medium.  Check out my blog to find full details on how I created this card.
Claire C
I've used the fabby Premium Art Brands stamps to create this card. The image is coloured with Graph'It Markers and the background was made by stamping the Winter Spruce stamp with versamark and then applying some silver and Pewter PanPastels....
Tracy - Collector Of Memories....
Hi everyone, my inspiration this week came from old books . . . what can I say I love the smell and the textures!....
I altered a very plain chipboard notelet holder using a Mask Stencil and some Maimeri Modelling Paste - a first for me and oh my goodness I think I am hooked!
I got to play with the Metallic Pan Pastels in Pewter and Silver, although you can't see it I also used a touch of Copper and Bronze along the way . . . they are a dream to work with.
I did add a touch of Magenta Extra Dark to give a little lift and some Tim Holtz IdeaOlogy rub ons.
Seriously, I ended up using quite a few Maimeri Mediums and Pan Pastels, if you would like to see more then please hop on by my blog here.

Lou: Firstly, forgive my photos as they really do not show the sheer shimmery effect the silver and pewter pan pastels give my card. I have used the Doily 1 mask as the main focus as when embossed on to the card, it looked like a snowflake (to me)!

I then cut a frame and embossed with the same mask and added my baubles stamped in versafine and then lightly brushed over with petwer pan pastel.

Terry  I was playing with 3 Tags and made a Tag Card with them. You can fold the 3 different tags in a way to make a card out of it.

The background was made with Metallic Pans, Stencils, Modelling Paste, the Grey Metally Pans in Silver. And I worked on those fabby butterflies with Utee and PanPastels. Added a piece of Ribbon on the top and the Tag Card was finished.

So there is our inspiration from the fabulously talented Pan Pastel UK team this week!...
