Challenge 24 - Anything Goes

Always a very popular theme, Anything Goes means just that, any theme, material etc. The worlds your oyster.

Please ensure that your entry has the following:
  • Your entry is linked to a post on your Blog (not to your Blog home page)
  • You link your entry back to our Challenge Blog (please refer to our How To Link page)

We are lucky enough to have the hugely talented Ali Reeve join us again this week as our Guest Designer, and as always, she has worked her magic to produce this lovely card.

Hi, I have been putting Pan Pastels through their paces recently, from water colouring to mixing with embossing and loving the effects.  But I choose this card as my anything goes because I love the effect. So the recipe for this one is as follows. Place your mask onto some dark card (dust your card with talc or an anti-static bag), ink through with versamark or perfect medium, remove the mask and sprinkle on white embossing powder. Tip off the excess and heat set, for a glossy finish heat from behind, for more texture heat from the front (I heated from the front!), allow it to cool. Now grab your pastels and sponges, and just apply the pastels over the embossing, really work it in, applying different colours to different areas. The pastels really make the design pop!

When our Design Team knew it was Anything Goes week...I think there was some extra creativity bursting to get out.

Thank you for joining us.  Have a good week.

Challenge 22 - Boys/Fathers Day

Sunday 17th June is Father's Day here in the UK, so to head towards that special day, we thought we'd give you the opportunity to show us your designs.

Unfortunately, some of us have lost our dear Father's so we have accommodated for that by adding a 'Boys' aspect to the same challenge.  This hopefully gives everyone a lot of scope to think of a male orientated card.

Our newly extended design team are spot on again and as we can see from the following inspirational projects, the ideas can be wide and varied.

Challenge 21 - Something Vintage

We have a double treat for you this week.

This week for our Something Vintage theme, we are honoured to welcome back the very gifted Ali Reeve who, as always, has used her brilliant imagination to produce this truly fantastic piece.  The recipe is pure magic.

Ali's Recipe
To acheive this aged vintage look, I took a lovely foliage stamp, inked and stamped with perfect medium and then brushed a dark green Pan Pastel over the image, this picked up all the detail and distressed the back ground a little. I then set this with some pastel fixative as I needed to ink all over the top with Perfect medium and did not want to spoil the lovely detail. After inking all over the image I applied Ultra Thick embossing powder, heat set and then repeated for 2-3 layers, so I had a nice smooth glazed covering. I then popped the glazed image in the freezer for 10 mins. This make the glazing go brittle and allows you to bend and crack the embossing to give it that aged look. This was then matted and layered on to the card. The final touch came from using the Pan Pastels to create my own vintage washi tape. I took a length of masking tape, stuck it to an old plastic bag, so I could work on it with out removing any of the stickiness. I then stamped the same image as the topper, along the masking tape in Perfect medium, again brushed on the Pan Pastels (using the same colours to ensure it all tones beautifully) working the pastels in well so they highlight the texture of the masking tape. I then tore the tape in to smaller pieces and applied the fixative spray again, as the nature of masking tape does mean if not fixed the design will rub off over time (remember to tear first as the fixative spray makes the tape harder to tear!) I then applied the tape as accents on the card as a nice alternative to ribbon.
